Puppy!!! I went to the mall a few days ago and visited the pet store I got Herci from. In the back of the store (it's a long and skinny one) I was the cutes miniature dachshund imaginable. My discovery required immediate action - I called my brother who said he'd be there in five minutes flat. He showed up right on time, with the girlfriend in tow. Together Cinders and I quickly convinced him that he *needs* this puppy! He was concerned of course that Maja would be less than impressed since her motto is: "Another dog? Over my dead body!". Well, we decided that the little guy could go to work with Braja and just come to visit, much like Herci. That did the trick and he is now the proud owner of the little guy (not named yet!). I heard many good things such as: He likes to attack the vacuum cleaner and the mop, has tons of energy, likes to sleep in his kennel and still fits neatly into the sink for his bath. However he hasn't quite got the hang of the fact that the bathroom is outside. We can only hope that he'll get it soon though. Poops in the house are not so popular with mom. Or anyone really! Here is a picture of the puppy:

I am a big clutz...the adventures of Queenskitty left to her own devices This happened a few weeks ago but uh, I was too traumatized to write about it till now..? It was the night of the choir concert (see poster below...made by me!)...Defenester was out of town to attend his grandmother's funeral in the West. So I headed out the door carrying my music, a bag of snacks for the choir since it was my turn that day to bring the goodies, several containers of water - all the while trying to walk in my skirt and choir gettup. As I was trying to shut the door behind me my darling (EVIL) kitty Hercules slips past me and runs downstairs. I had a small freakout during which I dropped all my things excepting my music folder. Then the noise of the door slamming behind me made it sink in - yep the door was locked, the keys inside, my purse inside, Entropy and the puffer and the fish and my car keys, the landlords phone number - all kinds of things that would be good to have in this situation - locked inside. So there I was standing in front of the door, with my (EVIL) kitty under my arm, looking cute and harmless. Trying to stay calm, but flipping out inside, I knock on the neighbours' door - thankfully one of the girls is home. I quickly explained the situation and she agreed to leave the (EVIL) kitty in their apartment for now (hoping he won't be looking for a litterbox in the next few hours). I frantically tried to call a locksmith (good luck on the Friday evening of a long weekend!) and find the landlord's phone number in the phonebook with no luck there either. It really sucked - what a bad situation to get myself into! Ugh! I had my phone on my, somehow, and called Defenester's cell phone to find out the building manager's phone number - I had to call about three times in a row to write the number down, I was so flustered by then! After leaving the guy a message he called me back in a few minutes and rescued me, the clumsy damsel in distress! Between him and the girls they opened the apartment, put the (EVIL) kitty back into the apartment and hid the keys so that I could get in after the concert. My neighbour also hooked me up with money for a cab (she called it too) so that I could get to my gig on time! I was a stressful evening that finally got better when the many cold meds that I took before the concert to suppress my crazy sneezing and nose dribbling fits kicked in. Then it was all woozy cruising from then on. I recommend it to those who have stage fright! It was unfortunate that I have yet again shown everyone that yes, I lose my things, I lose my keys, I lock myself out...so much for changing that image of myself. Sigh. Evil kitties are pretty cute! TOE JAM! A little while ago I was playing in the bathroom with my Hercules. He enjoys throwing things off shelves (to prove gravity still exists in that particular room), which I do not encourage because it leaves messes. Anyway, something dropped onto the floor and I wiped it up with one of those scrubby things that are commonly used (at least by me) to clean a bathroom. So after I scrubbed the spot on the tiles and wiped things off I noticed that the dark grey grout between the tiles on the bathroom floor in fact is not dark grey but white. This was an unfortunate discovery in more than one way. I now had a big white spot of white grout on the bathroom floor and I knew that the grey colour that had accumulated over the last 35 years or so was most likely toe jam of people with varying degrees of foot hygiene. Judging from the colour of the grout before and after scrubbing I think that it was mostly not-so-good foot hygiene that contributed to the problem. Since Defenester was under the impression he had to give a seminar he trotted off to the lab to work on it in an environment with minimal distractions. I decided to take the opportunity to scrub the rest of the bathroom floor that both Defenster and I looked at with a lot of suspicion since the white grout revelation. We also got tired of balancing on the foot towel whilst trying not to touch the actual floor. The scrubbing process was pretty painful, I won't lie. While inhaling bathroom detergent does have its fun aspects (wooooooooooheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...chemicals!) my arm got pretty sore after a while. A song by the Tragically UnHip came on at some point and allowed me to release some untapped agression and scrubbing power. Those of you who enjoy that whiny band - I still don't get it. I think it's the way the words get drawn out in every single song and how the lead singer's voice just grates away. Anyway, I digress. The bathroom looks like it got new tiles yesterday, it's kind of scary! Defenster screamed like a little girl when he first saw it.

Fun Easter Eggs *You* Can Make Too! Honey and I decided that we needed to colour Easter Eggs this year, even in the absence of our nieces whom we usually use as a convenient excuse to colour Easter Eggs. Maja limited us to a small number (around two dozen) which was sad but provided a challenge to make a few really good ones. We found the giant box of crayons commonly used for the Easter colouring activites and got to work. Some of my favourite ones were the following: Faja's HeadEgg By Honey. I am sure he adored eating his own head every bite. Egg entitled: Defenester's Puffer in Peril An ill-tempered shark with many exessively pointy teeth chasing after Defenester's puffed Puffer. A masterwork styled by me. Defenster looked somewhat offended, but since he chose not to participate I can not be held responsible for creating eggs that are not puffer-safe. Braja and Cinders' Love Egg Their names and many, many cheesy hearts and cute things. I don't know if Braja saw it but if he did I am sure it disappeared quickly because it was really annoying. Hehe. You know you love it. Bourgoisie Egg contained pictures of all the finer things in life, such as fast cars, Cuban cigars, Martinis and much more. Guaranteed to annoy some people (if they saw it...)
Wet Wipes anyone? Entropy, our darling and big-boned orange kitty, is going through a phase of low bum hygiene. We don't know why this has suddenly happened, but he is leaving little dingleberries around the house. I heard that you can actually cut the long hair around the bum, but Defenester's plan to buzz the area around the bum with an old set of clipper seems perilous. Right now Defenster is resorting to toilet paper and a solid grip onto Entropy's bum to give his backside a thorough, daily cleaning. He has recently come to the decision to invest in a big box of Wet Wipes, the type used to wipe baby backsides. What a good cat owner - Entropy has the boy trained!

Cutest bunny ever! While looking at ratemykitten (really, who doesn't rate kittens on their lunch hour...) I saw a new link pointing to ratemybunny. Ohhhhhhhh bunnies are adorable. The picture below is the bunny that was the cutest bunny at the time. It is now gracing my desktop and was in my seminar (at the end just because it's cute). Ballettgirl has it on her desktop too. Bunnies are awesome. Easter anyone?

When is Easter finally going to be here? Mhhh, Easter is the best holiday in terms of chocolates, for sure. I love Easter eggs, especially those small Lindt ones.
I don't know about eating the chocolate bunnies though. They taste good, I am sure, but I don't recall ever having the heart to um, cut their heads OFF and then eating them. My poor grandmother always got us these nice bunnies for Easter and we never ate them, we just played with them. I feel bad that we didn't eat them, but we did always enjoy them. Just in a different way. I miss my Grandma. *sigh*
Hercules = Destructocat! My cat was a bad bad kitty...: Defenester had this really nice, Japanese, beautifully decorated and tasteful bowl that he proudly displayed on the living room table. Till about 6:00am yesterday morning. At that early hour we were treated to a very loud bang in the living room. It seems the cat in question (presently hiding under the living room couch...a sure sign of guilt!) Nothing quite like cleaning up after your beloved kitty at 6am. Grrh. Well, at least Defenester is being a good sport about it. I am trying to find him a nice bowl to replace the broken one. Good luck to me. Apparently the cat brain has been studied and the following sketch has been developed. It is a map of the cat brain. Highly informative, as you will see. Check out the part on the left talking about the cat's urges to destroy imported textiles and ceramics...hm...I guess I should have looked at it before.

You are Ivy -
Do people call you "Ice Queen" or "Satan incarnate" on a regular basis? It's cuz they're jealous! You've already discovered your place in life, and you will NEVER lay down your beliefs for anyone else's People respect you for your confidence, and look up to the fact that you get what you want, when you want it. Your attitude towards life may be somewhat pessimistic, but you don't like wasting your time with flighty delusions. You might scare people off with your image, and part of it may have to do with the fact that you harbor rebellious feelings towards anything authoritative. But it's those kind of people who get things changed around here.

Gulab Jaman! Ahhhhh, the pleasure of a belly full of Curry Original Indian food. There is nothing quite like it! Yesterday at around 4pm, Honey called me and inquired if I had plans for the night. Since my life is not *that* exciting, that was a negative. And a good thing too, because both Honey and Faja had an inexplicable craving for Indian food that could and would only be satisfied with a healthy dose of Curry Original! Honey asked me if Defenster would also be attending and since he was well on his way of getting over a nasty hangover, I told her to make a reservation for 5. The big SUV pulled up at 7:15pm and since Defenester and I madly cleaned the apartment. Maja was enthralled by the scent of detergents, I am sure. Someone was burning their food badly and you could smell it all across the hallway and building. This apartment was a haven of detergent scents. I digress again... The restaurant was really fun and as usual we had way too much food. Honey and I indulged in some Gulab Jamans for dessert. Delicious. Defenester and I got dropped off at home and I realized I was missing my purse (what a big surprise!). He made a mad dash after the SUV and it stopped in its tracks. Maja told me that she used to lose her purse all the time and not to worry. I told her that it's a good thing my purse is ugly because no one would steal it (I have yet to find a Maja-approved purse...!). Sure enough, it was right at the cash where I had left it when I was admiring a beautiful Indian stone sculpture. Phew, I am so glad I got it back. Getting all your ID's back really sucks.

Something about green elastics? So much for enjoying my beautiful, powder blue elastics on my braces. Turns out that they stain too, if you put enough curry on them... I now have very teal coloured braces elastics you may admire for the next 5 weeks. Woohoo!

Valentine's Day Valentine's Shmalentine's. Boo...well, Valentine's Day came and went. I am tired of people asking me what I "did" for V-day and what I "got". Stop asking. Honey got me a nice e-card and here it is:
She also promised me that we would do shots-of-chocolate (Chantico:"Drinking Chocolate A drinkable dessert with an intense, full-bodied chocolate flavor and silky, rich texture") tomorrow. So there.
Cute kitty card Defenester found this cute kitty card on some other life journal site:
The kitty on it is called Chococat and he's like a better behaved version of Herci. Chococat is one of Hello Kitty's friends and I will find out more about him and report back. I think Chococat is very cute.
Chocolate Cream Puffs may be the food of the evil one!!! Recall the delectable chocolate cream puffs I had a couple of days ago? Yes, yes, you say. I looked up the recipe, just in case I have need for chocolate cream puffs in the future. Yikes! Check out the stats:
Calories: 1004 Fat: 67g Carbohydrates: 94g Cholesterol: 460mg Sodium: 233mg Protein: 17g Fiber: 4g % Cal. from Fat: 60% % Cal. from Carbs: 37% On the other hand, they are worth every single one of the 1004 calories. Mmmmmmmh. Chocolate cream puffs. Then again there are 4g of fiber. Fiber is important, right?
Herci is famous! So this publisher of university text books drops by the lab every once in a while because the boss is writing a text book. A couple of days ago he drops by again and is in need of borrowing an internet connection/lab top for a few minutes. So I let him use mine and he admired my Herci-picture on the desk top and asked me a bunch of questions about the kitty. He proceeded to inquire if I had any cute kitty pictures on my hard drive and then asked if he could use one of them for the text book demo because this picture he got from one of our profs didn't work out. After the picture was uploaded he told me that about 50,000 people would see it! I am so excited for my Herci!
Hairy news I went to get my hair cut today. The stylist commented that my hair doesn't grow very fast. Huh? I had no idea. I feel so bald now! Maybe I should really straighten out my diet and eat more healthy foods. Or less foods, but the ones I eat should be healthy? Why is food so complicated? Ack! Anyway, I will try not to get annoyed with my hair for a few months so that I don't end up with short hair in a little while. (Defenester is paranoid that I will suddenly end up with a bob haircut...)
Owwww I went to see the orthodontist today
Mushy food anyone? I keep wanting to ask the doc when the braces are coming off...and chickening out, in case he says it's still till Christmas. I went for different elastics this time. With my penchant for Indian food I always manage to dye the clear elastics bright yellow a few days after I get new ones. Then I look like a 'tard with bad oral hygiene for another five weeks until I get new elastics. On this braces forum I saw that if you get light blue elastics they don't get so dirty, so I asked for them today. The dental assistant smiled pleasantly and said: "Oh, those are really popular with all the kids". Well, it may have been a pre-teen forum. I am so way cool with the teen crowd now! Woohooo.

Concert success! Yay, the Desserts Concert was a big success! We made $1400 to help pay for the next concert. The choir is, as always, in desperate need to make money to pay for union musicians. It has become harder to pay for musicians this year because they got a 40% pay increase. Not a good scene when you have to hire a lot of them. It's really too bad though, because I wonder how many other organizations can now no longer afford to hire musicians. Does this result in less work and less money for the musicians in the end? Anyway, so the concert was fun. The little group I was in had three men and three women. The girls dressed up with lots of glitter, pink flowers in our hair and purple and pink feather boas around our necks. I am sure we looked delightful. There was only one hitch in our song when one of the basses accidentally started singing the same pitch as his soprano counterpart. It was funny but not intentional. The audience seemed to enjoy our silliness and someone asked me later if we were having fun up there because she thought it looked like we did! Ummmmmmmmm nothing about the quality of the singing though, hehe. There was a lot of delicious desserts left over and I indulged after the clean-up. I am now a big fan of chocolate cream puffs. Sooooo good!

Salsa! Braja and his girlfriend are taking Salsa Dance classes and are always up for more practice. So we decided to go to this little fundraiser dance event at the local Spanish-type eatery. Another friend of theirs showed up too and was a little underdressed in the sense that her clothing was tiny. But - for that kind of even you can get away even with the fishnets AND the FMB's. She was lots of fun though and all the dirty old latin guys drooled at us as we were dancing together. Two girls is approved of in ANY country and culture, I think. It's funny that you can be really old and crusty and nasty but be a slick salsa dancer and you are suddenly cool. Well, in this town anyway. I had a really nice surprise when Defenester showed up unexpectedly. I know that this kind of event isn't something he would normally be interested in but it was sooo nice of him to come anyway. And he looked really good too. It made my night. As far as my dancing goes - I am a bit rusty and certainly stepped on a couple of feet, which was unfortunate for the owners of said feet. Everyone had lots of fun though and we'll go again, I am sure.

Woooheee, another week of winter is almost gone! Some um, weird peeps enjoy this long winter thing, but I certainly do not. A main reason for my dislike of winter is the condition of the roads in this town. Why is it that the areas with the most pedestrian traffic get the least amount of snow removal? Maybe it's easier to remove once a thousand or so students trample through it and moosh it up? Another thing that is annoying is the gross brown colour the slush inevitably takes on about 12 hours after a snow fall. Ew, exhaust is pretty gross if you think about why the snow browns like that. And don't you just love that stuff all over your pant legs. And the wonderful line of road salt is so attractive. Good thing I like doing laundry... It was snowing very nicely this morning but it's really too bad that all the snow gets so gross so quickly, on the other hand, if you you want to see fabulous snowflakes then go check out this web page. I present a preview of superfun flakes:

How to catch fat orange kitties who enjoy their food...</b> What a good day! I caught a fat, orange kitty! Some may think that since I already have a fat orange kitty, I don't need another!</i> I stand firm: You can never have too many fat orange kitties!. Also we can't forget that Entropy is Defenester's kitty and not really mine. Entropy just likes me LOTS. Anyway, I digress. A while ago Entropy went through an annoying phase. He showed us his discontent (not enough food...wanting to move in with the girls next door...too much exercise etc.) by peeing on the futon in the guest room. (Note to guests: we have re-futoned since then). Defenster read up on kitty behaviour after and came across the idea to put food bowls where the kitty pees. We all know how much Entropy enjoys looking after his belly, so we put out a row of food bowls all over the futon in question. Entropy has not had an accident on the futon since! Defenester is so smart! And the secondary benefits are wonderful! This afternoon when I got home I found that the food futon is attracting more fat orange orange kitties! See what a precious cutie we found:
It's the perfect sleeping spot for those kitties who enjoy their food (a lot). Of course they would flock here. Unfortunatly the owner of the cute orange kitty was terribly upset at losing his kitty, so we gave him back. For now.

Hug a friend today Make sure that you give lots of hugs to the people you love. You never know when they leave you. Hug someone today. Make every day Hug-Somebody-Day.
Depressing Fish news Well, it's happened again. The new puffer died tonight. I think that it's Defenester's Tank-o-Death. There must be something wrong with it. The fish was actually kind of unhealthy upon arrival. He was covered in this fungus called Ick. Lots of fish get it and get over it, but because pufferfish don't have scales they get a lot sicker when they come down with it. I guess we have an empty tank now. Looking for new residents. After a thorough cleaning and disinfecting of course. It's very sad though. I was supposed to go to Ballettgirl's house for a pancake feast but when I got home the little puffer looked so sad as he was dying that I couldn't leave. The poor little thing. I don't think I will get attached to the next fish.

Booo...I didn't get to go to the Zoo...grrrhh! On Saturday, the day when I was supposed to go to the Zoo, my back hurt too much for me to want to sit on the bus for a couple of hours either way. So I decided to get my back fixed instead of going to the zoo. I don't even know what I did to it, but it hurts. Anyway, a trip to Maja and Faja and some therapy helped my back feel a whole lot better. It's still mending, but I'll soon be back to normal, I hope. Maybe Honey and I and Maja will go to the Zoo and that Safari thing sometime in the spring.
Mmmmmmmmmmmondays suck! Wow, today is a day when nothing happened. Great. Wait- the only thing remotely exciting is that Faja told me that the car place is looking for a replacement windshield wiper fluid tank for Betsy. This is good news because the old one is so leaky that it doesn't hold anything in anymore. My windshield is a huge mess right now. Good thing Betsy is ok otherwise. I think I need beads or shag carpet in there though. Just to make it more cool.
Stay away cold!!! Defenester has a chest cold/bronchitis. Poor guy is not getting a break from the health issues lately. I hope that he gets better soon and that I don't get this thing. I've gotta sing at that dessert concert. After that I don't care so much, but I can't let those guys down.
For your entertainment I think cat owners will relate to this bit of humour...

The cat got out of the bag! Heehee I am still amused at Hercistealer's attempt to steal my Herci yesterday. Defenester brought her a large gift-bag and told her that if my Herci jumped in there then she could take them. I was alamed at this because Herci loooves any type of bag and immediately jumped in there. Thank god he is a big kitty because as soon as Hercistealer picked up the bag it started to rip and Herci spilled out the side. Here is a graphic of Herci sitting in the bag:
Better luck next time!!!. Herci remains MINE!
Honey's visit Honey is picking me up at work today to go to the movie's and dinner after. I was asked by her to eat a snack before we go because we all know how "I get". Um, can't deny it...if I don't get food I can get a little "grouchy" or perhapes even an iddy biddy bit "unreasonable". Anyway, a long-time friend is showing up from Toronto and we are all going to supper together after the movie. Possible movies to watch: Finding Neverland or Million Dollar Baby. Since both movies got rave reviews I dont' think there is any way we can go wrong.
Zooooooooooooooo for me! Defenster saw a sign-up sheet for some second year biology course that is taking a trip to Toronto Zoo. So he went and asked if there was any more room on the bus and lo and behold there was. So - tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn - we are going to the zoo! I am sure it will be a blast and that I also should buy a whole bunch more film! Elephant bottom pictures here I come! |

Poor little fish... *SNIFF* It is really quite sad to have pets. Well, not all the time, but in the last couple of days we have inexplicably misplaced a small blue and red striped Tetra fish (maybe he'll turn up again???). Yesterday morning Defenester released our lab goldfish Fluffy into the big fun tank of the universe. Fluffy leaves behind his grieving friends Pinky and Brain and of course his girlfriend Princess. Fluffy was a good fish and we spent many hours staring at him in our office. May he rest in peace and may his girlfriend not move on just yet. Last night I had the sad task of calling Defenester to tell him that his cherished Pufferfish Meatball also moved to the big tank of the universe. Meatball passed on quickly and hopefully not painfully. I believe that he had the best care possible and that he was a happy and well fed fish while he lived there. May Meatball also rest and swim in peace. To fill his Puffer-void, Defenester adopted a tiny and adorable Figure-eight puffer that I immediately named Minimeat. While I think this a highly appropriate name Defenester was hoping for something more forceful. I suggested Thor and he loved it. I think that Minimeat is much nicer and cuter and am determined to call the little guy just that. Minimeat has just eaten his first bit of scallop and his belly looks full. He is happily chasing around his tank-mate Henry the ghost-shrimp and I hope that we'll have him with us a little longer than Meatball.

Happy Teeth! Everyone who has been keeping track of Defenester's teeth and the misery that started with a fateful cleaning appointment will be happy to hear that he is healing up nicely. Pizza-eating has commenced successfully this evening. I think it's a sign that there are better days for his teeth ahead!

Fun with Hercistealer This evening my little Herci, Entropy, Defenester and I had a visitor. Hercistealer came over for homemade pizza and the movie Harold and Kumar do Whitecastle. It was a lot of fun - sort of like Roadtrip but with a lot more pot. Herci was being a bit of a brat and started biting people. However when Defenester, Hercistealer and I all simultaneously petted him (a six-hand pet) he looked as happy as a clam. I made sure to check Hercistealer's bags before she left and thwarted Defenester's efforts to sneak my Herci out in a paper bag that Herci innocently jumped into. All in all it was a really fun time!

Little1's Birthday Since it was Little1's birthday on Saturday Defenester and I decided to head up to see her and the rest of the family (or whoever could make it). The nice neighbour lady had made her a delicious cake and I was quite eager to give that a try. It's the same cake my Grandma used to make. Buttercreme with Almond Praline. In a word: delicious . We went up there on Friday night and were hoping to see Little1 early on Saturday. Sadly Bigfoot had the urge to visit all of FIVE beerstores in the hopes of picking up some type of Belgian beer (to impress my parents with his good taste perhaps?) and by the time Little1 and Bigfoot showed up we had started to dig into the cake already (a move brought on by looking at and smelling the cake made by the nice neighbour lady and also the nice Marble cake I made. (Note that marble means the pattern, not the consistency of the cake). Anyway, she didn't look impressed with us or Bigfoot when she arrived. I think that Little1 really liked the cake I made her and of course the cute heart pendant that she immediately put on the chain around her neck. I am so happy she likes it!
Defenester's Dentist Adventure At the beginning of the year I decided to get my teeth cleaned, mostly so I wouldn't forget. When I made the appointment I decided to set one up for Defenster also, to save time. So he went and ended up having to get a bunch of stuff fixed. The worst was a broken wisdom tooth that needed to be yanked EEEK! So poor Defenester marched off to the dentist to get tormented and have his dental work done. The finale was the tooth pulling. The dentist, a very nice lady actually, had assured him that the extraction shouldn't be too bad and the event took place without Defenester going under. This turned out to be a BIG mistake. I got a phonecall from the dentist office on Thursday afternoon and the lady on the phone asked me to pick him up. This is never a good sign because if the person can't drive they are not in good shape. Sure enough, the Defenester I saw looked extremely green and shaken up. It turned out that they tooth was very hard to pull and after it wore out the first dentist after half the extraction another one from a different office had to be imported. The x-ray did not give a very good picture of how the root grew or how deep it was. This may have been due to the way Defenester's head was tilted. Anyway, he looked as though he was VERY happy to be done with the dentist. I got a pile of prescriptions and instructions and one Defenester to take home and feed mooshy foods to for a few days. I decided that rather than leave the poor guy here I would take him up to Maja and Faja's house for the weekend.
Herci's Adventure While Herci, my practially perfect kitty is well, essentially perfect, he gets himself into trouble every once in a while. Like this weekend. Herci loves to go to my parents' house because he gets to run around and be pet and spoiled by everyone. Well, on Sunday he ran into the living room like a bat out of hell. Upon catching the squirmy kitty and closer inspection it turned out that my darling (and almost perfect kitty) somehow got tangled up in one of those sticky fly catcher tapes that must have been hanging somewhere in the house.
Works for catching kitties too!

He managed to wrap it all around his neck and down one side of his body. Those things not only catch gross houseflies but also very cute kitties. I felt sooo bad pulling on the tape (it was the only thing to do, really) as big chunks of kitty hair came out with it. After removing the tape (and plenty of kitty hair) he was still full of the sticky stuff that is on the tape. I spent the next half hour or longer (time runs fast when you are having fun...) combing Herci and cutting away sticky bits of fur. Poor thing. He is kind of bald on one side now. His coat was my pride and joy. Hopefully it'll grow back soon. Another thing is that he seems to have singed some of his whiskers, maybe on the pellet stove. The whiskers are a lot shorter on one side and have these little ball like ends now. Herci was very tired after his big weekend!

I may never sleep again! Part II Last night I bravely went to see White Noise. I think I should have paid them only half the ticket since I was hiding for at least half the movie. The good thing about scary movies is that the music gives away when something evil and yucky is going to happen...so that's when I quickly looked away and hid. Once the music thing was back to normal I re-emerged. The other girls were hiding too, even though Hercistealer won't admit it!!! Consulting the Movies Queenskitty is not allowed to see list should have stopped me from watching this. Honey says that The Ring is much scarier anyway. I thought this movie was plenty scary enough, but unfortunately it didn't have enough plot to go with all the scariness. Next time Hercistealer won't get to pick the movie! AC Shlatinator thinks so too. As for White Noise, all you have to know is that if these guys show up: something bad will happen!
Evening activities today Well Hercistealers, tonight is your chance! I shall be out until 10pm or so to go to a bored/board meeting. I dare you to try!!! Just watch out for all the boobietraps set for you! It's a choir board meeting tonight and I predict that we will talk about the choir's lack of money (again) and how we should get sponsors. Hopefully we can get some sponsors or some type of benefactor before we are totally bankrupt!
Anger - too much or too little? So I was reading the Globe and mail today and there was this article about studies done on anger. If you are too angry you are more likely to get a heart attack (you know, those Type A people (like Hercistealer). If you are enraged then somehow your heart muscle gets deprived of oxygen and consequently the risk of a heart attack is increased at least two-fold for a couple of hours afterwards. But - for those Winnie the Pooh - I never get angry types - there are bad news too. Turns out that you are signing yourself up to be more at risk for everything from migraine headaches (ew!) to cancer (BIG ew!), irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's and so on. Soooo...maybe it's not so bad to lose it every once in a while. I should get started on that as soon as possible. Oh, before I forget there is a book about anger the article is mentioning: When The Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress by Gabor Maté. Or you can just go and slap then next annoying person you meet. May be a little more fun and definitely quite satisfying (at least till they smack you back).
Board meeting sucked three years of my life out of me Oh man...I just came back from my board meeting and it was another really painful experience. Many academics trying to do business...it took for-EVAH!!! In fact I thought it would never end. Sort of like an evening lecture. Ew.
Subliminal messges for Hercistealing found! Today Honey sent me a bottle of vitamins. On the bottle there was a sticky note that said: Can I have Herci? The answer is still: No WAY!!! Still, the rest of the many little sticky notes very really cute and very appreaciated!

I may never sleep again! Hercistealer and her labmate have tried all day to convince me that it's a good idea to go and see White Noise at the theatre today. The late show... I know that I have said that this movie is on the Movies Queenskitty is not allowed to see list . This is still true. If I am planning to sleep at all I shouldn't watch stuff like that. Oh wait, I can't sleep anyway, so it really doesn't matter. I will let you know tomorrow just how scary it was.
Kitty inquiry I cut the kitties toenails today, mainly because I caught Hercules trying to crawl up the shower curtain. While this looked fun for him, it's really bad for keeping water in the shower stall. Anyway, so I caught a kitty (first come first serve...whoever responds to the call of treats first gets cut first) and started to cut. The kitty wiggled around so much that he escaped. It was Herci actually. Anwyay, I ran after him and trid to grab him and got a hold of his waddle. No, a waddle is not what you may think... It's the fat part that jiggles on the belly. See the red arrow on my drawing:
I ask What's in a waddle? What is a waddle? Do all cats have them? Is my cat too fat? If you know anything about waddles, please let me know.
Lab News It's official. My yeast hates me. Another culture I set up didn't grow overnight. I hope that it's nothing serious. Maybe they just hate me. But that sucks too. Yeast is almost like an inaminate object. Do I want yeast to hate me? How pathtic. Hm.
Girls -Is there enough alcohol in your lives? I was reading Nature updates online (geeky, I know, I know) and there was this interesting article about women and alcohol consumption. Basically it showed that if you have a moderate amount of alcohol each day (like a glass of wine or so per day) your mind will stay sharper. The study, which comes out of Harvard University, involved about 12,000 women who were in their late 70s or early 80's. The group who had a moderate amount of alcohol each day did better in the cognitive tasks they were given than the control (or dry) group. Hm, maybe this whole no alcohol thing isn't working out for me after all. Should I drink more? Or should I wait till later and then consume a moderate amount of alcohol daily? Maybe I should make wine like Faja or his neighbour AlpacaMaster. I have to think about this. Don't want to neglet the BrAiNz.
I want to be a GIRL superhero!

Fish News Well, this isn't technically fish news, at least of the type that I usually put. Below is a picture of this cute plush bucket full of plush seafood. I really want it, it's soooo cute. Check out the features of it:

A beach bucket Crab that squeaks Clam with mirror and crinkle Lobster that jingles Starfish that rattles A play shovel A crab that squeaks!!! I NEED it!!! If you want to look at it some more and get excited about it too, then follow this link.
Cold and wet apartment news Another day, another apartment that's chilly. So this morning it was the "normal" freezing cold temperature, but since the sun was out we actually had quite a warm kitchen. I was in the kitchen, trying to decide what was different, when Hallelujah! I could see out the window! I haven't been able to do that for weeks now!!! Whilst cleaning the apartment with a big mop and bucket (not one of those annoying Swiffer products for people who can't do anything if it doesn't involve something you can toss after...don't even get me started on this...perhaps another time) I noticed that puddles were forming on the floor. The sliding door to the balcony was thawing out and there was so much ice to begin with that it actually made quite a mess. Quick, give me the Quicker Picker Upper, so I can add to the mountain of garbage that is already being created with these products. Argh! Oh yeah, I just checked the heaters and they aren't even warm. And this morning when I had a shower it was producing only lukewarm water (without even adding cold water). Grrrh.
Other News that may or may not be interesting to you
Hercistealer News Today there were no attacks on my kitty. I think it's because Hercistealers also don't enojoy the cold weather. Honey is just coming back from her trip to see Heffry and I think she took Via 1 this time because she had a coupon. You get all the alcohol you want (and all the chocolates!!!) so I told her to take full advantage of it. Her car (Cosmo) is having trouble starting so Faja drove her to the train station and Braja is picking her up (or picked her up, rather). She is in no state to concoct a plan to steal my kitty. I shall give her lots of alcohol more often.
Braja News Braja and Cinders are taking Salsa classes at the PEC. They have the same instructore that I used to have and they are great. Braja always said that he'd take classes with me but it never happened. *Sigh* I feel rather overlooked now. Anyway, he called and wanted some Salsa CDs to practice to. I have a great practice CD that I will make him a copy of. I really miss Salsa. I need a partner! Anyone out there??? Please? You can even step on my feet...
Lab News Not much going on. We had some equipment trouble on the weekend and also one of my cultures committed suicide by smashing itself, flask and all, into the side of the incubator. Suicidal yeast, that's all I need. I wonder if I should sign the next flask up for some meds. Prozak + Yeast = Therapeutic Wine. You get a buzz and really happy.
Betsy News I dug out Betsy, the car, today and also decided to run her for a while. For an old lady she is purring like a kitten. No problems at all! I am so happy. Now that I have jinxed it...
